Vancouver: Canada’s Multi-Cultural Green Gem

Nestled down in the Southwest corner of Canada, Vancouver is one of the most beautiful and diverse cities in the country housing all the natural wonder you could want. The views are breathtaking wherever you look—the snow-capped mountains, crystal blue Pacific Ocean, evergreen redwood-filled Stanley Park—it really is a sight to see. You can’t beat the access to outdoor activities of all levels either.

A Diverse Multi-Cultural Haven

Vancouver is home to a diverse group of people—and a lot of them. Over half of Vancouver’s population didn’t learn English as their first language. Almost one-third of the population is Chinese. This diversity and the resulting cultural influences affect every aspect of Vancouver. From food to architecture, expect to taste and see something different on every corner.

Wonderful Weather

Even though it rains almost half the time, Vancouver’s weather is some of the best in Canada boasting some of the warmest winter temperatures with some of the most comfortable and mild temperatures in the summer. Most of these weather patterns are a result of the coastal location.

Hollywood North

The claims to fame of the city, including the title “Hollywood North,” keeps the culture and opportunities interesting. Second in TV show production to Los Angeles, California, and third in movie production after both Hollywood and New York City, Vancouver sees lots of movie stars and sets. Interestingly, most of the entertainment produced in Vancouver are created by and for the United States. Canada’s entertainment industry exists in Vancouver. One of the more prominent studios is Vancouver Film Studios.

A Green City

Home to both Greenpeace and one of the world’s most research-focused aquariums, Vancouver is committed to being an environmentally friendly city. In 2018, the city council set the goal of becoming a zero-waste city by 2014. There are initiatives encouraging sustainably caught fish only, banning single-use plastics, and using just sustainable energy sources—there’s a reason so many people want to call Vancouver home!

For most, the benefits outweigh the costs, leaving Vancouver as an incredible city to settle down in, as long as you can handle the rain in Vancouver.
